Beto was born in Bixiga, São Paulo's "Little Italy" and spent his childhood between pizzas, polpettas and bracciolas. He worked as a tractor driver, singer in a choir (baritone) and cinema projectionist before becoming director of TV commercials. He travelled from Brazil to Canada, by Hitcchiking , when he was 21. Beto worked in the TV Globo offices in the New York and London and then took the opportunity to visit Russia and the Middle East. He loves mathematics and music, for him the highest art form. He likes Bach, Beethoven and Schubert, among others. To a Desert Island he would take the "Goldberg Variations" (Interpreted bt Rosalyn Tureck in 1988), "Crime and Punishment" and the paintings of Giorgio Morandi, if possilble. Beto is a collector. Of wines (the pinot noir he can afford). Of CDS. And of children (He and Carla, His wife, have triplets). He also likes to collect TV commeercials. he estimates that he might have some 80,000 spots cataloged and doubts that someone in the world has a bigger collection. Beto was six times finalist in Cannes and works like crazy to lin a lion. He hates photos os directors holding their chin on websites of production companies. He was chosen a director of Latin America in Shots 114 and one of Brazil's top three directors at El Ojo de Ibero-America in 2008.
